Does ADD/ADHD interfere with security clearances?

Posted by admin on February 16, 2009

Something U asked:

Im currently a student in college as an engineer and i was wondering if being declared as having ADD by the on campus heath center & psychological services will detriment my chances of getting a security clearance from a defense company such as Boeing or Northrop Grumman.

Also, I have not taken any medication (ex. Ritalin) and also wanted to know if starting treatment would cause any problems with getting a security clearance.

If have 2 diagnoses for my son that has ADHD and my ex wants a 3rd?

cmjn22 asked:

If I have 2 diagnoses for my son with ADHD but my ex wants a third, do I have to get the third? My son needs to get on a treatment plan soon. I feel we’re going to keep shopping for a diagnosis he approves of, which is that my son doesn’t have ADHD. Is there anything legal I can do so all of this shopping around for the “right” doctor stops?

Is FMLA available if even if you didn’t know condition qualified?

Posted by admin on November 7, 2008

asked:

Occurrences were medically related, not knowing it was FMLA eligible but did tell employer at “exit interview”. I’d accumulated 10 occurrences in a rolling 12 month period due to treatment for ADD/ADHD & depression prescriptions(insomnia/hypersomnolence) and lost my job. I told HR during my exit interview the situation, pleading for a “2nd chance”. I then sent them documentation & support from my physician and in an later job interview, when I submitted a letter from my doctor to explain my termination from this previous employer, the HR Manager said that it did qualify for FMLA (which I’d been unaware of previously). My former HR before the job I was terminated from also concurred that even mentioning medical difficulties warranted FMLA being offered at the point of termination and retroactively. Can any legal professional or someone that has been through a similar experience offer me further input?? Thank you so much!

Is ADHD and Anxiety considered a mental illness for legal purposes?

Posted by admin on October 9, 2008

Kay asked:

I was considering applying for a concealed weapons permit.

“The applicant does not have a diagnosed mental illness at the time the application is made regardless of whether he or she is receiving treatment.”

I was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety two years ago by a psychiatrist. I stopped going to the psychiatrist after realizing my concentration problems were due to anxiety. I no longer have anxiety problems.

Is anxiety disorder a mental illness? Will these two diagnoses hold me back in life?

Medical Records/Bar Admission. Please help?

Posted by admin on September 27, 2008

Abby asked:

Are the notes that a psychiatrist writes included in your medical records?

I am asking because I was seeing a psychiatrist and my Mother and I go into a fight. In order to get back at me, she called my Psychiatrist and told him I was crazy. When I went for my next visit, he asked why I didn’t go to a Psychiatric Hospital.

I was seeing him for ADHD treatment.

I have heard that you have to submit your medical records to the Bar. The doctor would write a bunch of notes when I was talking to him. Will all of these notes be submitted? or just the individual diagnoses of ADHD?
Michigan.

I briefly looked at an application online for the Michigan Bar. It asked if I have any “psychiatric illnesses” Do I have to put down that I was diagnosed for ADHD and Anxiety?

I don’t even see a doctor anymore. And I don’t take the pills anymore because adderall causedme troubl esleeping.

Does the Government monitor parents spending on SSI money for ADHD child?

Posted by admin on September 25, 2008

Cyber asked:

My brother lives in WISCONSIN and he and his fine wife recently have recently $700 a month for SSI regarding their ADHD 8 yr old son. My bro told me they use the money to make their house payment. Is this illegal since they should be using it for their son and it is technically HIS money for his disability? Is seems to be improper use of Government money.

Can you still sue someone after four years?

lenny asked:

I have had problems with my 17 year old daughter’s school since she’s been in seventh grade. There was a school social worker(myra moore) who told me and my daughter that my girl needed ADHD medicine. And when I wouldn’t get it for her, she took my daughter in her car to a mental evaluation place, and told me that I had to allow it. I, not knowing better went behind them in my car after telling her no. The wemon that evaluated my daughter told me that she thought that Moore was putting all of it on. But because it all was brought to them I by law had to take my daughter to the local mental hospital for another evaluation. While there they told me I had to have her put in the hospital to study her. Now at the time I had my toddler with me, otherwise I would have fought tooth and nail, but I heard of horror stories of people getting their kid s all taken away, and they were telling me by law I had to. I have never been in trouble before, and thought because thay had a little athority that I had to cooperate, I was really scared. Well after four days of my girl being in there, they told us to pick her up and that she was fine, and just being a bratty teen because she wasn’t getting her way at home all the time, and Myra Moore was the main problem. Than a few days later, we get a bill for $10,000. I called Moore’s boss Judy and she asked Moore about all of it. She addmitted that she took my daughter in her car from the school, which is against the law, I found out after the fact. My insurance paid all but $1700, so Judy made sure it was paid. Also because of this, we had to have a social worker come in our home and take pictures of my other child, who knows where those are at now!!! thank god that lady had since enough to see through the fourteen year old bratty years. Anyhow…my girl is now 17, B average student, stays out of trouble, and has really changed for the better. However, now in highschool, she gets harrased by the vice principle, that no parent I’ve talked to likes. Her actuall principle is ok, but not this guy. The reason for the question is that I’m still scared for my kids to go to school. This whole thing has messed up our family’s mental health. We live too far to send our kids to a different school, or that would have allready been done. And there is another parent sueing them right now because this vice principle grabbed her son. This school thinks they can do what they want. And when this all happened, I did try to get a lawyer, but no one wanted the case. Anyone with legal experiance got and advice?
