stacie9243 asked: I have opened a board for parents who want to discuss with other parents with ADHD children who understand and dont critisize and judge the method of treatment you use. It can be hard and I wanted to start a board where parents could go where they can share and feel comfortable with others knowing what they are going through. Please yahoo me or email me for sight information. Ive also started a Support Group in yahoo groups as well.

HappyMomAnna asked: My adopted daughter has been put through the ringer from Kindergarten to 4th grade…. She was placed at age five federally and state identified as Special Needs….
She has FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders) Specifically ARND (Alcohol-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder) with an IQ of 72 and Zero Working Memory almost no Processing….
She also has Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) Disinhibited Type… PTSD, ODD, ADHD, and was sexually abused….
We have worked since kindergarten for an IEP and long story short…. Finally got one last October… After 5 months and 15 meetings the public school has agreed they cannot meet her needs at their school… Next week she will attend another district Day Treatment Program in a Class with Only Boys…
I am concerned… The Modality will be Behavior Modification You cannot Modify Brain Damage and she is at risk with sexualised behaviors. The shcool is 1:2 ratio in class but…
Can I ask for a HomeBound Education Teacher?
Thank you,
She spent most of 1st and 2nd in a Psych Day Treatment Program and from Winter Break to Spring Break of 3rd in Residential Treatment.
The FASD Diagnosis was made 9/2006 and since WE have come to understand how to handle her and allow her time to “process” we have nearly Zero violence or behavior issues at home… She needs 5-15 mins to Process Instructions and when upset about 15 - 20 mins to calm.
School wants Instant compliance and she has been in a Time Out Room 3x on 4 different days. 1:1 aide was added and behavior has gone well but she is in Contained Enviornment which this school is not “able” to accomadate.
We have used the Advocates in the past to Get the IEP but there has been about 15 meetings since Jan with some only 48 hrs notice. I was told there would be an Eval meeting and got there to find a decision to send her to Day Trtmt was made.
I know they are in Violation but, so tired it is hard to fight it…
Thank you…
It was very clear from the start that the school was not willing or able to manage the needs it’s sad that there needed to be a series of failures to get to the Next Level of services.
I also agree the time out room was abusive–we have attempted this sort of method at home and found it to Frighten her far too much.
She has had severl Assesments for behavior I believe Functional Assesment and Adaptive Behavior.
She is at a second grade level in most areas of education.
She Requires “Constant and Direct Supervision” which has been the biggest problem area… When an Aid was added the aid became a “tutor”.
With the other issues (Attachment Disorder and ODD) Homeschool is not effective as it only adds another thing to be ODD and have Attachment Disorders to the mix…
She is on the Highest level of Crisis Mental Health Services in the County: 2x Weekly in home therapy–meds and Respite (for us) twice weekly for her to have outings

Cedar_2006 asked: He wants to play baseball; he has fine and gross motor difficulty. Do I let him and worry he won’t be able to keep up with the typical kid’s? He’s too old for tee-ball…
He just doesn’t have the coordination, he’s okay when I’m at home and we’re in our yard because I’m patient and encouraging - worry about a team though. But isn’t that part of being a kid is playing a sport of you want to?
Suggestions? Any Asperger’s teens: does coordination get better when you get older? He’s only 7 right now.
