double07 asked: consider the following hypothetical situation:
no medications are allowed to exist
good, effective, loving parents
therapy
behavioural training
good diet
very little TV computer videogames
plenty of exercise and sleep
low grades
normal to high intelligence
no learning disabilities or emotional problems or other mental problems
and the kid meets all the criteria and has all the problems assocaited with it
does ADHD STILL not exist?
ADHD isnt about thinking slowly its about not being able to control what you pay attention to

Enviro-Mentally Retarded asked: I have recently been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and ive been doing alot of reading up online about the subject and started taking adderall for it a few days ago, and ive been wondering.
There are plenty of traits that ADD/ADHD excel in, for example multi tasking, very creative, think “out of the box”, improved motor functions. Now my question is, do the medications that take away the negative side effects possibly take away the positive ones as well?
For example, will i be able to focus better yet at the same time lose my creative touch?

swillhite1977 asked: Does he have any hope for a normal lifestyle? He has done something that was so totally not like him today and ticked me off really bad. He hit a kid in the back of the head with a rock unknown size and put a whole in the kids head and made it bleed at school. My child is normally loving not a mommas boy but close and only does things so drastic if someone has really upset him and it takes a lot to make him mad. He is only 6 yrs old, 55 lbs., 3′5″ tall. He is normally bashful and he’ll stand and smile at you if you’re a stranger talking to him he’ll hide behind my leg, but he likes to observe people. He’ll share just about anything, and he misses his brother when he’s gone even though when he’s here it seems like he fights about 50% of the time.
I have put him in soccer and he pretty much just stood there. I ahven’t tried taking sugars away yet, but I have some of the red and the park is ok, but he gets scared on some things, and I have waited til he got into kindergarden and meds were the last resort, but know I don’t know if they work. He is really calm and we can talk to him and he does artistic things and he thinks and says REALLY smart things when he is on his meds, the other thing is he was almost diagnosed with asmatha, but they backed off cause he only takes breathing treatments when the weather is messed up or pollen is high.

why not? asked: I happen to have ADHD-Inattentive type and interferes with my job performance alot. It would also be nice for co-workers to accept and be more friendlier with me because i won’t be accused of being ’stupid’ all the time.

Please Don’t Disturb asked: Before medications for it surfaced. Did parents/doctors of kids diagnosed with ADHD have them to focusing/memory exercises? Were they simply not treated and just accomodated for?

Jocy asked: I am looking for information on Adult ADHD/ADD and (low income) treatment for it in Las Vegas, NV. I have tried Clark County Mental Health, who referred me to a clinic research program, but the person was 10 pound under the weight requirement to qualify for the study. How do people who need help get it if the don’t have big $$$s?
I have tried State Aid/Welfare but they only help after you have gotten a diagnosis.
