Wanting to know what type of Medical Test that I should take for ADHD?

Posted by admin on May 26, 2009

Inquisit asked:

Hi. I am currently suffering from ADHD and depression. Medication is helping but I’m not sure if it’s placebo or it’s the meds. Like most people that suffer from such condition, we all want to feel, (think) want to be normal and lie to ourselves that it’s all in our head. Well, I want to know if it’s true or not. Is there a test that is recognized in the medical field which will prove or disprove of my condition? I’ve heard of it but don’t remember the exact name of it. It’s some…”thryid” it starts with a “th” and around five to seven letters long. Anyhow, I might be completely wrong. If you will, please let me know if there is any type of test that will prove my ADHD. Finding the cause will show me the way to fix it. Been on too many pills… It’s killing me. Please help.
A test that will scan my brain to see if there is any part that does not respond well or is not on average (normal) in comparison to my peers.

Is there infant ADHD medications out there, that is not “harmful” on a pre-schooler?

I have a little brother that is two years old. Yesterday he was diagnosed with ADHD. I don’t find this surprising in the least bit because I happen to have ADD myself, along with my uncle. It was quite obvious from the beginning that he was not “normal”, and I had suspicions that he may of had ADD or ADHD a long time ago.

Braeden’s case is a little different from most ADHD cases. He also has a rare metabolic disorder where he has a deficiency of enzymes to break down sucrose.

What I’m curious about is if there is an actual medication that is “safe” for a toddler, with this disorder? Braeden is at the point where he could get himself kicked out of daycare because of his impulsive actions and aggressive behavior.

I know personally that Adderall has been a miracle for me. I started taking it six years ago when I was in sixth grade, and it has made me a more social person and I began excelling in school. Overall it adjusted my life for the better.

I don’t want my baby brother to go through the hard times that I had… being rejected and feeling like you’re a “mistake”.

Is there anything… even herbal remedies that can help suppress his ADHD impulses?

Should I start medications for ADHD?

I;ve known for years that I have ADHD. Ive taken self tests online and in books etc, and have scored almost off the chart. Although I do have symptoms, I do not feel my life is too negatively impacted. I often say things without thinking and often forget minute details about something I don’t deem important. My attention level is very bad unless I am raptly interested. My primary doctor says no doubt I have ADHD. But, she scared me with the potential side effects of the medicine. Plus, would I be changing who I am?

How do you get an ADHD child, on proper medications, to understand how not to say/perform bad words/actions?

My son is 5 years old, and on Focalin XR and Clonidine already in life. Possibly been labeled bi-polar or ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder). Even with the meds, he still acts out, and has a hard time complying with rules. In this society, we have to perform proper parental behavior modification. (meaning no spankings and we can’t tell them he’s being a bad boy, we have to tell him he is not making the right choices, otherwise teachers want to call DCF in). Whatever. I just want to know what parents in these situations have done, to help relieve some of his improper words, and hitting episodes. I’m willing to hear what really works.

My son was diagnoised with ADHD at age 4. He is now 11. We have had to rty several medications over the years. They work for awhile then they seem to stop. He has side effects like his appetite etc. Well now he seems to be getting more angry, frustrated etc. Not once has a doctor suggested a non stimulant Med. My question is…Who knows of a non stimulant drug for ADHD that’s not going to take 2-3 weeks to take effect? School started back today and that wouldn’t be good.

Are there any good over-the counter ADHD medications?

I have ADHD and it is such a hassle for me to have to go to my doctor all the time for refills on my Concerta, because her office inevitably drags their feet and always takes a week or so to refill it. Anyways, though, I was wondering if there is any good medication that you don’t need a prescription for that is effective for ADHD? I need something to supplement the times when I am out of Concerta and I don’t have my refill yet. Let me know, thanks!

ADHD in Adults

If my little guy start taking meds for ADHD but hi TS tics still remain, what are the options?

Posted by admin on

Leswonder! asked:

Both my son and I have adhd symptoms (he’s diagnosed but I’m not). We both have tics and the people who diagnosed him said that this was just the ADHD but I do not think so. I was not too impulsive as a child yet I had tics, and my boy can call out something or screech even when he is in a relatively calm state (so it is not about regulating states of mind as I am told the cause is).

Any how, I am not getting excited about the prospect of giving him medication as I am not sure it will affect the tics and I wonder If they will be more noticeable then.
For example, he is happy being daft an making silly noises but he finds it easier to play the fool as he doesn’t have to explain outbursts. When he has to be sensible or is feeling sensible and something pops out he smiles and apologizes but in quite a shy way and sometimes looks embarrassed.

I would honestly let him keep being the class clown rather than him feel embarrassed. But are there other options that can work for TS and ADHD together?
